ARCURI MAKES HISTORY WITH WIN
Utica, NY – Today, Congressman Mike Arcuri released the following statement, now that 100% of precincts in the 24th congressional district are reporting.
“At this point, with all precincts in, I am winning this campaign by nearly 6,400 votes. I expect that margin to hold and only grow as the roughly 9,000 absentee ballots are counted.
“CNN, MSNBC, and other media outlets have declared me the winner.
“In this congressional district, as many of you know, we have now made history: I am now the first Democrat re-elected since 1934; and I am only the second Democrat re-elected since the Civil War. I want to thank the thousands of dedicated volunteers who helped my campaign and voters who supported me.
“We have over 30,000 more Republicans than Democrats in this congressional district, and I overcame those incredible margins in what is clearly a strongly Republican area. We did that by appealing to Independents, Republicans, and Democrats alike about my record fighting for middle class tax cuts, opposing privatization of Social Security, working to bring our troops home, and keeping our promise to our veterans.
“We faced challenges this year, as reports are showing historically high Republican turnout. And you have seen nasty, negative campaigning reminiscent of 2006. In this campaign, even the National Republican Congressional Committee ran attack ads against me and lied about my record. Despite these attacks, the voters have chosen our positive message of delivering real results for Upstate New York.
“Our issues and our values have prevailed, and I am confident this margin will hold.
“I look forward to continuing to serve the 24th congressional district.”
